Selling a call means you're giving someone the right to buy your shares at a certain price. If you already own the shares (a covered call), then you don't have to buy the shares to deliver them at that certain price. Let's say you sell the rights to buy 100 shares, at a price of $100 per share. You sell these rights for $1 per share. You earn $100 for selling the rights to the shares. For the person who owns the rights to make money, the share price must go past $101 per share. Scenario A: If the price stays at $100 per share, he just paid you for the right to buy your stocks at the market rate. Scenario B: if the shares go up to $101/share, he breaks even; he paid $100 for a $1 discount on 100 shares. Scenario C: If the shares go up to $102/share, he makes money, because he paid $100 for a $200 discount. Scenario D: the stock pirce drops below $100, he loses money because he paid $100 for the right to buy shares at ABOVE the market rate. In all scenarios, you get $100, AND except C and MAYBE B, you keep all your shares. The only scenario you "lose" is C, where you only earn $100 instead of earning $200. If you DON'T own the shares, you have to buy them to hand them over. In this scenario, you lose more money the higher the stock goes. If the price hits $200/share, you're fucked, because you promised to sell it for $100/share.
I’m honestly taking all this news to mean that battery tech is *still* too expensive to sell broadly to the general public *without any* governmental assistance in adoption. That’s honestly heartbreaking for any future-focused or environmental-focused people out there. I’m guessing R&D costs along with resource mining (Lithium) is still too high to start discounting EVs like normal ICE cars. It’s a bit frustrating… nearly the entire automotive industry bet the farm on EVs completely replacing ICEs within a decade. Even Volkswagen is taking something of a beating on going full-EV, too. Congrats to Toyota for taking things slow… apparently their slow-to-adopt-new-tech strategy has fucking paid off massively. -signed, An F and GM bag holder
So this was posted and pinned after market today. Interesting things I found… 22k volume on the weekly $61c and 15k of that was in the first hour of today. It tripled from $0.05 to $0.15 then faded through the day P&D? Coincidence? Maybe I need some nicotine and a tinfoil hat. Someone trying to capitalize on the weed attention? Curious to see what tomorrow brings https://preview.redd.it/fb7qt6tuvh7g1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=432f3770d1d441cad67fce945c57d654f36b2f9d
EV enthusiasts pop these numbers out for every make and model that comes along, but the reality is that 10k unit sales per year is not a pathway to profitability. They need to sell ten times as many per year to offset the R&D of battery infrastructure, but those days don't appear to be on the horizon. EVs are fabulous economy cars. Trucks are not economy vehicles. It's just a bad fit.
Shouldn't have sold my SOXS and TECs in one of my accounts last week. All in on another. Shorted tesla today. With that, probably ball and get that d rating Ive always wanted on onlyfans

You accidentally put an "n" I think you meant to use "d"
GM has a better product at the moment. Solid state batteries may make all the R&D every EV carmaker is doing on batteries obsolete very soon. Politics are not on EVs side at the moment. I think Ford focusing on hybrids and gas vehicles right now makes sense, but they need to be prepared to pivot very soon as politics and advancements in battery technology make EVs attractive again in probably the next 2 to 4 years. So at the end of the day, I hope Ford isn't giving up on EVs entirely as they are part of a future product portfolio needed for success imo.
