40 years? They just had the same type of president in Mauricio Macri as recently as 2019. He tried the same austerity measures and it cost him his presidency. South America has been leaning right for the entirety of the 2010s after the 2000s “pink tide” of socialist leaders. Now they are heading back left. Most right leaning governments have been voted out in most SA countries over the last 3 years. 2 or 3 conservative governments remain? It’s a cycle. Only Venezuela remains as the lone holdout to the Pink Tide leftist movement in SA over the last 30 years.
