A lot of people. Iran still has a functioning government. Imagine if Iranians had killed the president, most of the cabinet, and several members of congress. Would the American government grind to a halt? Or would successors be quickly appointed? Trump made the mistake of assuming that Iran was a strong man dictatorship. Instead it's an authoritarian republican theocracy. It's an oversimplification, but imagine combining the papacy with the US government. People would still vote for candidates, but the candidates would have to be approved by the church, and the head of the country would be the pope who has control of the army and appoints everyone on the supreme court.
