And, at the margin, Tether has been a big buyer the past few years, as it assembles assets to back its stable coin. According to the interweb, only 4 countries purchased more gold than Tether did in 1Q26 (6 tons+), those being Poland, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and China. Tether now has 132 tons of gold. That’s more than S. Korea, Australia, or UAE.

If you set up cameras looking at the strait and livestream it, Oman/UAE security services will come and tell you to shut it off, then probably deport you. They do not want useful targeting information to be shared with Iran.
