Haven't been to RL in a while. Are they worse than TGI Fridays and Applebee's?
Every person here is reminiscing about the days that the RL biscuits are king.
Darden sold off RL back in 2016. They still own OG.
RL does have the cheddar biscuits
I was a dish pig at one in the 90s. It was Hell on Earth, but the cooks hooked us up. When they saw us struggling, out of nowhere a lobster tail, steak, or a dish of sauteed shrimp would appear for one if us to scarf down like an animal. The prep who made the cheese biscuits would usually leave a giant bowl of them for us to graze upon. One *never* tires of RL biscuits... The waiters were all right, but it was the bussers who were mostly cunts
Nah, red lobster used to be under Darden which owned both. But RL is under a private equity firm now
This is a classic franchise and PE playbook. Leverage the company (Red Lobster) up, saddle them with above market leases and vendor contracts to a separate holdco also owned by the parent firm, to the point where the company likely can’t meet debt covenants long term. All the “profit” funnels to the parent company via costs to RL, while the lendors are fucked because RL has no real assets to liquidate.
I was brought to RL for Mother’s Day to meet with my wife’s family. I got a tummy ache eating the shrimp and grits and spent the evening on the toilet.
They closed 96 stores the day after Mother’s Day. Source: my RL bartender
