MU closed its consumer facing Crucial brand to go all in on HBM only to lose to SK Hynix and Samsung for next gen NVDA memory at least til mid ‘27 because its HBM4 is too slow to qualify. Still booked for Blackwell but losing the next gen contract is huge. Only down 16% from ATH, puts still feeling safe at this level.
They're sold out likely to 2027.  Plus they will definitely sell HBM4 to NVDA.  Maybe just not right away.    Finally, Samsung and SK couldn't possibly take all the markets business.  Plus MU is more efficient for HBM. Youre just mad for buying at the top.
Idk but I didn’t realize MU dropped because Samsung is mass producing the new HBM memory and apparently that’s why it dropped today
SemiAnalysis trash and always wrong, they claim MU’s HBM market share for Vera Rubin is zero
Too bad Samsung is just wrapping up construction on a huge foundry in Texas aimed at HBM precisely to avoid this
MU said as much in their financial PowerPoint.  They are sold out of HBM and HBM4 into 2026 maybe 2027.  Apparently they feel good about their customers' buying plans.
Yes it's a direct replacement to HBM. It is just as fast as HBM, but 10 times cheaper.
Is it related to ai though? Like hbm on the gpus? Or is it wholly seperate demand for ssd and flash storage across sectors?
Samsung will reportedly begin mass production of [sixth-generation high-bandwidth memory](https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-pushes-hbm3e-chips-ai-servers-while-improving-hbm4-yield/) (HBM4) chips this month. These advanced semiconductor memory chips are said to be used in Nvidia’s next-generation AI accelerator system, called Vera Rubin, which is expected to launch later this year. A [report](https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20260208001100320) from South Korea claims that Samsung could start shipping HBM4 chips to Nvidia as early as next week, coinciding with the Lunar New Year holiday. This [lines up with an earlier report](https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-hbm4-mass-production-start-next-month-nvidia/) about the mass production schedule. Those chips will be used in Nvidia’s Rubin GPUs, which are designed for generative AI servers and hyperscalers. The company has recently invested a lot of resources to [boost its HBM4 production capacity](https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-increase-hbm-production-capacity-drastically/). Current-generation AI accelerators, such as the AMD MI350 and Nvidia B200, use fifth-generation high-bandwidth memory (HBM3E) chips. Micron and SK Hynix are the top two providers of HBM3E chips, while Samsung trails those firms. However, in the HBM4 segment, Samsung is expected to become the largest supplier.
Forbes on MU/Micron 12-Month Outlook Scenarios Upside Scenario (+70% / $720): Based on achieving $48 EPS in FY27 by securing a leading design win for HBM4 with a major AI chipmaker and increasing the forward P/E to 15x. Downside Scenario (-40% / $240): A "Cyclical Trough" where non-HBM demand declines and competitors saturate the market, plummeting ASPs and necessitating a return to a 10x historical P/E on mid-cycle earnings.
