This is incorrect. They quote the notional value of the short, not the collateral amount in the articles. As per the article:
"Arkham noted that the whale had previously shorted $700 million of BTC, after which he did the same with $350 million of Ethereum"
and some other comments. His current short isn't even a quarter of the size of his previous ones, which netted over $200m profit. In otherwords, there is no conviction relative to the previous movements.
