I’m sure there’s some dollar value where we get a lot closer, a lot faster. Like 1T spent on chips, data, and energy would make significant strides, but I think the real bottleneck is time and hardware R&D. Things really picked up with AI-training GPUs, but we will only get so far with that. Eventually we’ll need some new breakthrough computing technology to do what’s needed for AGI. And for all we know it requires unbelievable amounts of energy that make it impractical without fusion or something.

Intel should be on the bottom of the ocean because they fucked us for years by downsizing on r&d and delivering basically same the chips year after year just with a new model number and price tag. All the while making some accountant CEO so he can only focus on profit and acting like improving their technology is crazy difficult. That’s why they got destroyed by TSMC and AMD. Boeing did the same by the way disinvesting in engineers and putting the focus on profits only.

Most famous are probably d-matrix, sambanova, groq, tenstorrent. None of them are better than nvda on energy efficiency much less "blow nvidia out", he's just full of shit. Then you have hyperscaler AI-at-home efforts like AWS inferentia, MS Maia, and Google TPU. Not really sure how good they are, only the TPU is thoroughly benched but my understanding is that they suck as well.
